FOR ENGLISH LEARNERS / ESOL STUDENTS

Build on what
your child already knows.

Home-language strengths, current English proficiency, age, and schoolwork help shape an individual learning plan. Developing English does not mean a student lacks knowledge or ability.

01

Understand the starting point

Discuss the student’s home language, educational background, current English use, and parent’s preferred communication language. Review reading, writing, speaking, and listening needs.

02

Teach with language support

Use modeling, visuals, vocabulary practice, sentence frames, and guided conversation. Appropriate home-language support is agreed with the tutor; available language support is confirmed before enrollment.

03

Develop independence

Practice using English in meaningful tasks, revisit skills, and reduce prompts as the student becomes more confident. Tutors review work to choose the next teaching step.

FOUR CONNECTED SKILL AREAS

Language for learning.
Language for life.

Lessons connect English development to academic and social contexts, with a focus chosen for each learner.

Vocabulary and comprehension

Develop useful everyday and subject-specific vocabulary, understand instructions, and read texts with increasing independence.

Writing and expression

Build sentences, organize ideas, and communicate clearly through writing tasks matched to the learner’s stage.

Speaking and listening

Practice asking questions, following explanations, participating in conversations, and presenting ideas.

Language across subjects

Connect language instruction to ELA and mathematics, including explaining reasoning and understanding word problems.

INDIVIDUAL LEARNING GOALS

Measure meaningful steps.

Goals can include using new vocabulary independently, understanding a passage, organizing a paragraph, or explaining an idea aloud. Tutors use work samples and short skill checks to review growth.

FAMILY & SCHOOL CONNECTION

Keep the next step clear.

Parents receive plain-language progress updates. Schools can discuss a coordinated program with agreed subjects, schedule, language support, and reporting needs.

Instruction supported by Tutor Hub

Educators use assessment evidence, editable lesson plans, practice materials, session notes, and reviewed report drafts to support instruction. AI-assisted drafts require tutor review; language adaptations are checked before use.

ENGLISH + ACADEMIC LEARNING

More than translating a worksheet.

  • Everyday and classroom vocabulary
  • Reading short texts for meaning
  • Building sentences and connected writing
  • Understanding mathematical language
  • Tutor-observed listening and speaking

English tasks stay in English to build understanding. Bilingual directions and individualized support help students access the task without simply supplying the answer.

HOME-LANGUAGE SUPPORT

Start with what the student knows.

The portal includes direction support for Spanish, French, Portuguese, Arabic and Haitian Creole, alongside English. Other home languages can be recorded and supported through tutor-added, reviewed language notes.

Content and pacing are confirmed for each student’s age, literacy and teaching stage. Practice results are instructional evidence; they are not a standardized English proficiency score.
